Sail 2005 in Amsterdam
Sail 2005 has arrived! Yesterday (Wednesday 17 August) the fleet arrived in the harbour of Amsterdam. The ships are now moared on their spots and from today everyone can visit them. There are tons of other things to do as well, from eating exotic foods to attending concerts to lounching on floating sand beaches, and much more.
Of course, the ships are the main attraction. And as I don't have time nor the inclination to spend the whole day among hundreds of thousands of other visitors, I decided to drop by early this morning. I arrived at 6am and found the quay sides open for public. That was better than I had anticipated. I'd figured the quay sides would be locked off at night to prevent possible terrorists to set up early. That such a threat is considered real is visible from the large number of police and private security guards. Also, the dutch naval ships are now visibly guarded, something that was not always the case. But no-one confronted me or prevented me from photographing. And at 6am there were very few people around, and even less photographers, so I had ample opportunity to shoot whatever I wanted.
